Granny Chicken and Dumplings
List of Ingredients
In a large pot, stew a whole chicken with spices, (1/2 tsp marjoram, sage, poultry seasoning, and whatever else you like in chicken broth). Remove chicken when done and take meat from bones.
Strain the chicken broth to remove the “icky” stuff and set aside.
To make what my Grandmother called dumplings (but other people call noodles)
4 cups flour sifted
2 tsp baking powder
1 egg
milk to make dough
Recipe
Mix and knead, roll out on a floured surface to about 1/8 inch thick and cut into squares.
Drop squares into the broth, which you have brought to a gentle boil. When dumplings are done, add the chicken, and milk (1/4 to ½ cup) to make gravy.
