    Good Basic french bread recipe. Very adaptable to a variety of ingredients


    List of Ingredients


    • 2 pkg. dry yeast or 2 scant Tablespoon
    • 1/2 cup warm water
    • 1/2 tsp. sugar
    • 2 Tbsp. sugar
    • 2 Tbsp. fat
    • 2 t. salt
    • 2 cup boiling water
    • 71/2 - 8 cup flour


    Instructions


    1. Dissolve yeast in warm water and sugar
    2. Combine sugar, fat, salt, and boiling water
    3. Cool to lukewarm and add yeast mixture
    4. Stir in flour until dough ready to knead. Do not worry if you use less flour.
    5. Knead 10 minutes or until smooth and elastic. Place in reased bowl, turning once. Let rise until doubled. Punch down and let rest 15 minutes. Divide dough in half. On floured surface, roll each half to a 12 x 15 rectangle. roll up, starting at 15 inch edge. Place loaves on greased cookie sheets and make 4 or 5 slashes diagonally across tops. Let rise until double.
    6. Mix and brush on 1 egg, beaten with 2 T. milk, if desired. Sprinkle on poppy or sesame seeds.
    7. Bake at 400 degrees for 20 minutes


    Final Comments


    Can be cut in half to make one loaf.
