    All American Apple Pie

    List of Ingredients


    • For the Crust-
    • This makes one crust. - For two repeat process.
    • 1-1/3 cup flour
    • 1/2 cup very cold butter ( sliced into pats.)
    • 1 teaspoon salt
    • 1 tablespoon sugar
    • 1/4 cup ice water
    • For Pie
    • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
    • 3 tablespoons flour
    • 1/4 cup water
    • 1/2 cup white sugar
    • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
    • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
    • 1/8 teaspoon nutmeg
    • 8 Granny Smith Apples. peeled, cored and sliced
    • Large brown paper bag (type used to put groceries in )
    • Paper clips or fasteners


    Instructions


    1. Pie Crust- With chopping blade in food processor, put in dry ingredients. Pulse two or three times to mix.
    2. Add cold butter. Then start machine and slowly add water until dough forms into a ball. (you may not need all the water)
    3. roll out to 1/8th thickness and put into pie plate.
    4. For Pie-
    5. pre-heat oven to 400 degrees. Melt the butter a 2 qt. sauce pan stir in flour to form paste.
    6. Add water, white sugar, brown sugar, nutmeg and cinnamon. Bring to a boil. Reduce temperature and simmer.
    7. Place apples on pie crust. Mounded slightly.
    8. Place upper crust on top (lattice or cutout designs)
    9. Gently pour hot liquid over pie, slowly so that it does not run off.
    10. Place pie in a brown paper bag. Grocery type bag.
    11. Turn edge of bag over and Secure with paper clips or fasteners. Place bag on cookie sheet and bake for 1 hr.


    Final Comments


    Note- I flattened the bag so that it wasn't too high.
    I wasn't sure if it would catch on fire. It didn't and the pie came out nice.
