1 Cup Cold Water
1/4 Cup CornstarchRecipe
Combine ingredients in a covered jar and shake up well. Store in the refrigerator.
To Use: Shake up well to recombine. Stir 2 Tablespoons of the thickening mixture into one cup of simmering liquid. Cook and stir until sauce simmers and clears. Use more or less thickener, as needed. If sauce becomes too thick, thin it with a little boiling water.
One of the best uses is to turn cooking liquid for vegetables (use beef or chicken bouillon for flavor) into a sauce instead of using butter or other fat.
YIELD: Recipes makes enough to thicken approximately 7 Cups of Sauce and adds about 12 calories to each cup of sauce.
