    Woman's Day Christmas Cookie Recipes, Dec. 1961

    List of Ingredients




    First Layer:
    1/4 cup butter -- or margarine
    1 cup flour -- sifted
    1/4 teaspoon salt
    Second Layer:
    2 eggs -- well beaten
    3/4 cup light brown sugar -- packed
    1 cup walnuts -- finely chopped
    1/2 cup coconut -- shredded
    1 teaspoon vanilla
    1/4 teaspoon salt
    2 tablespoons flour
    Frosting Layer:
    1 cup semisweet chocolate pieces
    1/4 cup light corn syrup
    1 tablespoon water
    chopped nuts

    First Layer:

    Preheat oven to 350°. Cream butter. Sift in flour and salt. Mix
    thoroughly. Spread evenly in greased and floured 9" x 9" pan. Bake
    for 15 min.

    Second Layer:

    Beat eggs and sugar until smooth. Stir in all other ingredients and
    blend thoroughly. Spread over first baked layer and bake for 15 min.
    Cool.

    Frosting Layer:

    Melt chocolate over hot, not boiling, water. Thoroughly blend in
    corn syrup and butter. Spread evenly over baked, cooled second
    layer. Sprinkle with chopped nuts. Leave in pan overnight. Cut into
    36 squares.
