    1 cup granulated sugar
    3/4 cup shortening
    1/4 cup molasses
    1 egg
    2 cups flour
    1 1/2 tsp soda
    1/2 tsp salt
    1 tsp cinnamon
    1/2 tsp cloves
    1/4 tsp nutmeg
    1 1/2 tsp ginger
    1/2 cup sugar

    Recipe



    Cream sugar and shortening together
    until light and fluffy.

    Add molasses and beaten egg.

    Beat thoroughly.

    Sift flour with soda, salt and spices.

    Add creamed mixture.

    Blend together carefully so that all
    ingredients are well mixed.

    Roll small portions of dough between
    palms of hands into small balls, about
    the size of walnuts.

    Roll balls into 1/2 cup sugar.

    Place 2" apart on greased cookie sheet.

    Bale at 375* F for 15 min.

    The cookies flatten out as they are baked.

    When they are baked, remove at once from
    cookie sheet.

    Makes 5 dozen.
