Woman's Day Christmas Cookie Recipes, Dec. 1961



List of Ingredients




1/3 cup butter -- (*must* be butter)
1/2 cup sugar
1 egg
2 egg yolks
1 teaspoon mace
2 cups flour -- sifted
1/4 teaspoon baking powder
colored sugar or chopped nuts


Recipe



1. Cream butter and sugar until fluffy.

2. Add whole egg and 1 yolk.

3. Stir in mace.

4. Beat in, a little at a time, flour sifted with baking powder.

5. Knead dough until smooth. Chill 1 hour.

6. With hands, roll pieces of dough to pencil thickness, 3" long.

7. Form into "S" shapes, or any other letters, then put on greased
and floured (or parchment lined) cookies sheets.

8. Let stand 2 hours.

9. Preheat oven to 350°.

10. Brush with remaining egg yolk beaten with
a little water and sprinkle with colored sugar or nuts.

11. Bake for 15 min.
