How prepared are you to evacuate your home in case of an
emergency?
What would you do with only 5 minutes to get out of your
home?
Do you have a plan?
We do.
I have two large suitcases I now keep filled with some of
mine and Ricky clothes and such. Right at his moment they
are not as filled as I like as we are doing a load of
laundry but in an hour or so they will be filled again.
For fall/winter in Ricky's I have socks, fleece top, shirts
and his sweats, knit hats, Depends, coloring book, a few
books. In the car I have more Depends and diaper pads for
Ricky. Also pillow and blanket.
I have a supply of our meds in a bag in my purse.
5 minutes to evacute house means grab Ricky , purse
,sleeping bag and suitcases. All are kept close to front
door .Put all in car. We have some snacks and beverages in
car.
Jared will grab cats and I will come back and help and grab
cats and cat food kept close to door for emergencies and a
container of kitty litter.
In my suitcase I have tops, bottoms , knit hats, sweats and
fleece wear, set of tooth brushes, toothpaste. I keep a
small deodrant in my purse with some fragrant items. I
packed some mens large sizes clothes in case Jared needs
them. Reading material. I have a phototon light on my
purse. In the car I have a clean kitty litter square
continers filled with paper plates, can opener, plastic
wear, plastic cups,paper towels, toliet paper, pens, papers,
can openers [more than one] , towels, no soap hand
cleaner,soaps,and a few books. I need to get a new diaper
wipes . We have a gallon of water in car. We need a new
flashlight and we need a battery or solar powered radio.
We have an umbrella and a few 99 cent tarps , a few poles,
cheap plastic rain pauchos [dollar store] and a packet that
has clothes lines and clothes pins. In another are
crackers, p-nut butter, tuna ans canned lunch meat and some
cans of fruit and beverages. We have some plastic trash bags
and foil.
All of these take up very little room, very little, I have
them compactly packed. We have folding canvas chairs that
come in a bag and one table like that for Ricky. We are
moving our large cooler into the car permantely. When
shopping we can store perishables in it. When not we can
keep a few other thing there.
So with 5 minutes we can get to safety providing Ricky is
not i the bathroom when this happens. Then we will have a
problem.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
10 minutes, grab all cats, extra water and computer. More
depends, our chage in pill boxes. We do not have a cell
phone.
++++++++++++++++++++++
15 minutes, add the TV's and VCR's, and another medical
emergency kit. This will take at least two to do.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++
30minutes add: dump a few grain barrels and fill with tapes
and CD's , pictures and important papers, and a clean kitty
litter potty box...it's enclosed and I keep a spare one
clean and sterlized at all times. We rotate these.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
30+ minutes add : get more clothes from closet and more
canned foods dump into grain barrel. We will lock plus tape
grain barrels and strap to luggage rack. More toliet paper.
Take fresh fruit and carrots.
++++++++++++++++++
We do not have a place to put cats once in car. We are
designing one that will fold and hold all 6. It must be
wood, light and sturdy. We need to keep them all in the
same one as they panic if not all together.
For right not I have very 3 large boxes but this will not
do but at least they would be safely contained.
With more than 30 minutes we could do so well.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
now when doing this we are not being neat, just grabbing..we
can neaten stuff later.
I keep a good supply of rope and tape, plus keep scissors in
purse.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
This is so important do practice runs. You do not need any
surprises when you may need to do this for real.
This could save you and your family life.
PRACTICE MAKES ALL FAMILAR AND SAVES LIVES.
You must that is workable for you and yours.
It must work for you. when weather is cool I can keep
insulin in purse, when hot I need a cooler for it.
I hope we never have to use ours and hope if you do one you
never will either but...best to be prepared.
Now what I am asking is anyone who has had to evacuate
their homes what are tips you can share and what problems
come up?
GAS would be one .
