70's Pecan Pie
Source of Recipe
Old News paper clipping saying "Governor Shapp {cut off} Rapped by {cut off}" on back
Recipe Introduction
It's a 1971 to 1979 recipe from the local newspaper that someone clipped out and saved
List of Ingredients
- 1 cup syrup [paper suggests White Karo]
- 1 cup pecan pieces
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 3 eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla [real vanilla ok?]
Instructions
- Beat eggs slightly. Add sugar nuts and flavorings plus salt. Mix well
- Bake in moderate oven [350F] for 30 minutes or until firm.
- Serve with whipped cream [the real not the canned or tub variety ok?] or ice cream.
- The recipe assumes you have enough brains to know how to do the pie crust because people actually could cook back then. You knew what a moderate oven was. You knew what pie crust you needed for this.
- Don't ask, I won't answer. Go look at the JOY OF COOKING and read the section on pies before the recipes.
Final Comments
I would suggest an OLD version of the Joy of Cooking. I just picked up my version at the thrift store for $1.50 for my niece because mine is so food stained.
