Old-Fashioned Fried Chicken

1 gallon cold water
1 cup kosher salt
1 cup sugar
4 to 5 pounds of chicken, cut up
1 cup flour
3/4 cup buttermilk
1/2 teaspoon red pepper
oil for deep frying
Recipe
Combine water, salt and sugar in a large bowl; add chicken. Cover and
refrigerate overnight. Drain and pat chicken pieces dry. Combine
flour, buttermilk and red pepper. Coat each piece of chicken and then
deep fry in hot oil at 355 degrees for 8 minutes or until the chicken
is done. The chicken is done when juices run clear. Serves 4 to 6.
