make as many things from scratch or cheating scratch(partially
    prepared,
    partially scratch meals) as possible.
    When cold, soups, stews etc.
And instead of serving steak every time you buy steak how about just
    every
    other time?
    And the times in between.......
just say you have enough steaks, chicken breasts, pork chops etc. for
    6
people, well instead of cooking them as individual steaks here are
    some ideas:
(using ANY meats, not just steak)
    Steak & noodles
    1 or 2 steaks
    egg noodles
    cream of whatever soup
    dash of worcestershire sauce
    salt & pepper to taste

Steak fried rice instead of chicken fried rice with egg rolls & sauce

    Pasta salad, very filling
some pasta, mayo, chopped up meat (one serving only) and an assortment
    of
    fresh veggies
dash of garlic salt & italian seas. & IF you like some grated cheese,
    mozz
    or chedd is fine.

Regular Veggie salad with some boiled eggs & a serving of meat, chopped
    up
tossed in. Serve with french bread.

One night you can serve baked potatoes & cook up some cheap chili
    (canned) &
offer shredded cheese.......great toppings. OR brocc & cheese sauce
    for
    topping.

There are SO many options. I used to always cook meals that required
    each
person to have a huge piece of meat on their plate BUT what they need
    is the
veggies! So, add in some meat, so they get that protien, LOTS of
    healthy veggies
& you have SO many options. Then just once a week or so serve a
    complete
    serving of meat.
I"m not a vegetarian, just eating healthier, cheaper & my kids love the
    variety!
