    Combine 1 cup milk and 2 tablespons cornstarch in saucepan, stirring
    until
    thick. Cool.
    Cream 1/2 c shortening and 1/4 cup sugar and add cooled
    mixture to
    this. Mix in 1 teaspoon vanilla. Beat until smooth and then spread on
    cake.
