1 pound lean ground round
1 teaspoon liquid Barbecue Smoke(r)
2 garlic cloves -- minced
low-calorie cooking spray
1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
4 hamburger buns, low calorie
1/4 cup reduced calorie ketchup
4 teaspoons prepared mustard
4 yellow onion slices
4 tomato slices
4 lettuce leaves
Recipe
1. Preheat broiler.
2. In a mixing bowl, combine ground beef, smoke seasoning and
garlic. Blend well and shape into four 4-inch patties.
3. Coat broiler rack with a low-calorie cooking spray. Place
patties on rack and broil 2-3 inches away from heat source for 3
minutes. Turn, sprinkle with black pepper, and broil 2-3 minutes
longer.
4. Run buns under broiler to toast, about 1 minute. Watch closely
to be sure they do not burn. Place burgers on toasted buns. Add 1
tablespoon catsup, 1 teaspoon mustard, 1 slice each of onion and
tomato, and a lettuce leaf.
TO FREEZE: Prepare hamburger patties as directed on step 2 of the
recipe (Note: do not continue to step 3). Freeze in a single layer
on a cookie sheet overnight. Transfer frozen patties to a 1-quart
freezer bag. Seal bag tightly, allowing no excess air to remain, and
freeze. This can be kept frozen for up to 2 months.
TO PREPARE FOR SERVING: Do not thaw. Place frozen meat on a broiler
rack coated with a low-calorie cooking spray. Broil 2-3 inches away
from heat source for 4 minutes. Turn, sprinkle with black pepper,
and broil 3-4 minutes longer. Toast buns and assemble burgers as
directed in step 4 of the recipe.
