List of Ingredients
1) put whole cut up chicken in the crockpot or roaster with the
cranberry sauce. also add
about a 1/4 cup of water. Check the liquid level after a couple hours
and if
it seems to be drying out a bit, add some more water
2) butter beans/corn/tomatoes- succotash
3) meatballs/spaghetti sauce/sub rolls/mozzarella- meatball subs
4) precooked chicken breast strips/feta/ tomatoes/green pepper-
Mediterranean chicken salad
5) hamburger patties/gravy/Italian bread (sliced) - salisbury steak
on
toast
6) salmon/onion (diced)/ salt and pepper- salmon patties
put the salmon in a bowl and take out any spines you see. These
will
look like attached round disks. Then knead the salmon gently with your
hands
and remove just any big sharp bones that you feel. Take a fork and sort
of
mash the salmon and all of the tiny bones will crush. They are a great
source of calcium and you won't notice them in the final product. When
you're making the patties, I would probably throw in a beaten egg as
well.
It's not totally necessary but it will help the patties bind better.
When you've mixed it all together and formed the patties, fry them with a little oil until they are a little crispy on the outside and warm on the inside.
That's all there is to it. I usually make lots of these and freeze them after I cook them.
7) sausage gravy/corned beef/biscuits (made with Bisquick)- I don't
know
what you would call it but put the beef and gravy on the split buns
8) tuna/instant mashed potatoes/cheese- potato-encrusted tuna melts Make tuna patties much like the salmon patties. Dip them in milk and
then
in the instant mashed potato flakes (just dry out of the box). Pat down
well
so they stick. Fry in oiled pan until potato flakes are crispy.
9) sausage/potatoes (cut up)/onions/tomato sauce- throw in crockpot
10) clams/spaghetti/spag sauce/veggies- clam linguini
11) yams/ground beef/corn or peas- shepherd's pie with a yam
topping
(instead of mashed potatoes)
12) peanut butter/spaghetti/scallions/hot sauce- Pad Thai
13) Northern beans/tomato sauce- baked beans
With any dried bean (and they will quickly become your frugal friend
when
you're on a tight budget), you cover them with water and soak them on
the
counter overnight. If you have time before you go to bed, change the
water
and then again first thing in the morning. This apparently helps to
reduce
the gas factor in the beans. All dried beans and peas except lentils
need
this soaking before use. In the morning, drain the water and throw the
beans
into the crockpot with the tomato sauce. If you have them, I would add
about
3 Tbsp of Worcestershire sauce, 1/4 cup of regular prepared mustard and
1/3
cup of brown sugar. If you don't have those things, though, the beans
will
still taste great.
Another thing you can do sometime with any kind of white bean is to
make
white chili, which uses chicken and all white ingredients but still
tastes
like chili.
THEN THERE'S THE BAKED BEAN SANDWICH. SLAP TOGETHER 2 BUTTERED
SLICES
OF BREAD WITH BEANS & BARBECUE SAUCE BETWEEN.
14) beets/broccoli- beet and broccoli soup
15) cheap steak- cut into pieces and simmer in crockpot slowly with
Italian salad dressing
