    Homemade Yeast Rolls

    Source of Recipe

    My sister-in-law, Connie

    Recipe Introduction

These homemade rolls are absolutely fabulous! A real hit at all holiday meals.

    List of Ingredients

2 cups warm water (105-115 degrees)
    2 pkgs. yeast
    1/2 cup sugar
    2 tsp. salt
    1/4 cup vegetable oil
    1 egg (beaten)
    6-7 cups flour

    Recipe

Dissolve yeast and sugar in warm water, and let sit about 3-5 minutes. In a large bowl, combine the yeast mixture with the sugar, salt, oil and beaten egg. Add flour gradually, and keep adding until dough is no longer sticky and pulls away from the bowl. Knead for several minutes on a floured surface, adding flour if necessary. Put into a large, greased bowl and cover for about 1-1/2 hours. I sometimes turn my oven on for just a few minutes... just long enough to create a small amount of heat, and put the bowl in the oven so it can rise. (don't forget to turn the oven off....you're not ready to cook it yet!) After it has doubled in size, take out of the oven and punch down the dough. Divide into balls about the size of a golf ball. Place in a butterd 9 x 13 pan leaving room between the rolls for them to rise again (about 1 hr.) After they have doubled in size, back at 400 degrees for about 10 minutes. I like to brush with melted butter when they come out of the oven, then STAND BACK so you won't get stampeded by the crowd when they get a whiff of those homemade rolls!!!
