    Vanilla Custard Pie with Crumb/Nut Crust

    This has been one of my favorite pies since I was a child. When my mom starts taking orders for pies to fix for Christmas, this is at the top of my list.

    List of Ingredients




    Crust:

    1/2 cup butter
    1/4 cup brown sugar
    1 cup flour
    1/2 cup chopped pecans

    Save about 1/4 cup to sprinkle on top of pie. Press the rest into a 9" pie pan and bake at 400 degrees for 15 min.

    Filling:

    2/3 cup sugar
    1/2 cup flour
    2 cups milk
    2 egg yolks
    1/4 tsp. salt
    2 Tblsp. butter
    1 tsp. vanilla

    Combine the above ingredients (except the butter and vanilla) and heat over medium heat in a double boiler. Cook until thickened. Remove from heat and add butter and vanilla. Poor into the cooled pie shell, and sprinkle reserved topping on top.

    Chill for several hours before serving.
