    Recipe Introduction

This has been one of my favorites for years.

    List of Ingredients

    2 cups flour
    2 cups sugar
    1 stick butter
    1/2 cup shortening
    1 cup water
    4 Tblsp. cocoa
    1/2 cup buttermilk
    1 tsp. soda
    2 eggs
    1 tsp. vanilla
    1/2 tsp. cinnamon

    Icing:
    1 stick butter
    6 Tblsp. milk
    4 Tblsp. cocoa
    1 box powdered sugar
    1 cup chopped nuts (optional)

    Recipe

Sift flour and sugar in large bowl. In a small saucepan, mix the butter, shortening, water and cocoa and bring to a boil. Once it begins to boil, remove from heat and pour over flour/sugar mixture. Mix well. Then add buttermilk, soda, eggs, vanilla and cinnamon. Mix well. Pour into a greased and floured jelly roll pan (11 x 16). Bake at 350 degrees for 20 min.

While this is baking, prepare your icing because it needs to be ready to pour on the cake when it comes out of the oven.

In a medium saucepan, bring butter, milk, and cocoa to a boil. Remove from heat and add 1 box powdered sugar. Mix until smooth. Add nuts (if desired). Pour immediately onto hot cake.

(Tip: If you don't have buttermilk on hand - as I usually do not -- add 1/2 tsp. vinegar to 1/2 cup milk and let set for 5 min. Wa-La -- BUTTERMILK!)
