    Horchata

    Source of Recipe

    Claudia.....
Horchata....Prounounced OR-Chata. Okay i just got off the phone with her and she of course just eyeballs hers but she gave me approximate measurements, this recipe is for about one gallon. She said it is important to keep it chilled after its made.

She uses about 3/4 cups of uncooked jasmine rice and a full blender full of water. Put the rice in the blender and let it soak for an hour, she says you dont have to, but its better if you do. (Blends better) Then add (this is to taste) She says 1/2 cinnamon stick to start, but she uses a whole one. So after you let the rice set....blend it really really well...she stressed that you blend it for a long time (with the cinnamon stick) once its pretty smooth, add sugar to taste....BUT she says it tastes way better if you use eagle brand milk instead of sugar, again starting with half a can, to start, but to taste (she uses a whole can). Now i can tell you the ones that i have had that she made were made with sugar, and they were outta this world. THEN you mix in about 1 tsp vanilla and add water until its diluted enough to your taste. She said its like orange juice and needs to be shaken or stirred before you pour each glass. Serve with or without ice, and enjoy!! (I like mine just cold without ice.
