    PUZICI (SNAILS)

    2 sticks butter
    2- 2 1/4 cups flour
    1 tbls. sugar
    1/3 cup plus 1 tbls. milk
    2 tsp. baking powder

    Mix everything together to form a nice soft dough. Kneed slightly. Divide into 2 ( I divide into 3).
    Roll each out as you would for a stroudel about 1/8" thick.

    Filling
    3 extra large egg whites
    1 cup sugar
    3 1/2 cups finely ground walnuts
    1 sq. chocolate grated
    little rum
    at least 1 tsp. cinammon or to taste

    Beat egg whites stiff with the sugar. Fold in the rest of the ingredients.
    Spread over the dough & roll up. Slice into 1/2" slices. Place sliced side down & bake till lightly brown. Place on racks to cool & then sift with icing sugar.
    These smell wonderful when baking. I always grind the nuts in a cheese grater so that they are fresh & I always use unsalted butter. do not grate the nuts in a food processor as they become to oily.
