Crispy Fried Mushrooms
8 oz Whole Fresh Mushrooms
1/2 c Unbleached All-Purpose Flour
1/2 ts Salt
1/4 ts Dry Mustard
1/4 ts Paprika
1 ds Pepper
1/2 c Buttermilk
Crisco Oil Or Vegetable Oil

Wash the mushrooms and trim the stems slightly, then set aside. Mix the flour, salt, mustard, paprika and pepper in a large plastic food storage bag, blending well, and set aside. Place the buttermilk in a small bowl. Dip a few mushrooms at a time into the buttermilk, then place into the bag with the flour mixture, shaking to coat the mushrooms completely. Heat 2 to 3 inches of Crisco Oil in a deep fryer or heavy saucepan to 375 Degrees F. fry a few mushrooms at a time for 2 to 3 minutes or until a deep golden brown, turning several times. Drain on paper towels and serve hot, passing the catchup if desired.
