    FIG NEWTONS.
    ************
    1/4 cup sugar
    1 tsp salt
    1 cup sour cream
    3 cups whole wheat flour (sifted)
    1/2 tsp soda
    1 cup figs
    1/2 cup nuts
    3 tbsp butter
    3 tbsp hot water
    1/2 tsp vanilla

    Mix the first 5 ingredients. Knead and roll very thin. Grind the figs and nuts. Cream with the butter and hot water, add the vanilla. Spread 1/2 the dough with fig mixture and fold over the other half of dough on top. Press together and cut into 1 1/2 inch squares. Arrange on cookie sheet, sprinkle with sugar and bake at 400 degrees for 20-25 min.
