Magic Marinade
Ingredients
1 cup strained orange juice ("fresh" says Martha)
1 cup sugar ("good quality" Martha would say)
3 slices of peeled ginger
2 tablespoons Cointreau
Directions
Simmer juice, sugar and ginger for 15 minutes. Remove from heat and add Cointreau. Chill. The magic begins.
Martha orginally said to ball three colours of melons (water, cateloupe, canarary, honeydew...that's four, but who's countint) with different sized ballers Drizzle the sauce over the balls and serve.
Use this sauce for any fruit compote. It's fantastic. Serve in a Manhattan glass with a cookie and it's tres elegant.
Use the leftover fruit compote (or start with a new mix of berries: straw-, blue-, black-, rasp- or whatever is handy) and simmer a few moments as a crepe filling. Tartly delicious. Add some butter to the sauce, simmer in a saute pan, toss in a crepe for a moment to coat and warm. Fill with the compote. Toss some sliced stawberries into a little more sauce to warm and serve over the crepes.
Leftover sauce just gets more syrupy and delicious. Keep some in the fridge at all times as a staple!
