Recipe Introduction
From Coliseum Bar & Restaurant, New York, N.Y.
Not being Irish myself, I was taken somewhat aback by the title of this drink -- seems a bit insensitive. But I found that the potion (and several variations thereof) are popular in Irish bars both here and on the Emerald Isle, laying whatever P.C. concerns I may have had to rest.
This drink involves a somewhat curious combination of Jameson's, Bailey's, and Guinness. But it's a very smooth drink, assures John O'Hara, the delightful bartender from the Coliseum in New York. "A lot of people are scared because it's got whiskey in it," he notes. "But the Bailey's smooths that right out. I drink them till they come out of my elbows."
List of Ingredients
8 ounces Guinness stout
1/2 shot Irish Whiskey
1/2 shot Bailey's Irish Cream
Recipe
Pour the Guinness into a mug and let the head settle. Fill a shot glass halfway with Jameson's, and top it off with Bailey's. Do a toast with the shot glass (the Gaelic word for cheers is slainte, pronounced, approximately slon-chay), drop the shot, glass and all, into the mug of beer, and quaff.
