Brown Sugar Cornbread

2 sticks butter or margarine ( or a combination of both )
1 cup brown sugar
3 cups yellow cornmeal
2 cups flour
2 Tbs. baking powder
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt
2 cups buttermilk
4 eggs
Recipe
Melt butter or margaine and stir in brown sugar to dissolve.Add fork beaten eggs and buttermilk and stir to blend. Set aside. In a large bowl combine the dry ingredients. Make a well in the center and add the liqquid ingredients. Whisk to blend smooth. Divide batter in 2 large, 9 x 5 loaf pans. Bake in a preheated 350 oven 30 to 40 minutes or tested done and pale golden. Remove to racks to cool, Turn out of pan after 5 minutes. Serve warm or at room temperature. Freezes well. Yield 2 loaves, Halve the recipe for just one loaf.
