Minty Witches Cookies

2/3 C. shortening
1/2 C. sugar
1 egg
1 (6-oz.) pkg. chocolate chips, melted
1/4 C. light corn syrup
1-3/4 C. sifted all-purpose flour
2 tsp. salt
50 to 60 thin chocolate-covered mint patties
Recipe
Combine flour, baking soda and salt. Set aside.
Combine shortening, sugar and egg in bowl and beat until creamy. Blend in melted chocolate chips and corn syrup.
Stir in flour mixture. Chill several hours.
Preheat oven to 350*.
Shape dough into balls about the size of a nickel and roll in sugar. Place on ungreased cookie sheet and bake for 10-15 minutes (I only bake cookies for 8 to 10 minutes for a softer cookie.)
Let stand on cookie sheet just a few seconds (do not let them cool).
Turn half of cookie over; top with peppermint patties and place the other cookies on top.
Let stand on cookie sheet a little. When mint starts to melt, carefully push cookies together so mint forms a filling to the sandwich.
