Note: This recipe is especially good with peaches.
1 Quart milk
1 Quart Half & Half
10 eggs
2 Cups sugar
1-1/2 Tablespoons cornstarch
1/2 Teaspoon salt
2 Teaspoons vanilla
1 Quart fresh fruit; chilled, sweetened, and crushed (optional)
Recipe
Heat milk and Half & Half in the top portion of a double boiler. Beat eggs. Add sugar, cornstarch, and salt to the eggs. When the milk mixture nears the boiling point, slowly stir the egg mixture into it. Stir until the mixture is thick enough to coat a metal spoon. Add vanilla and, if desired, fruit. Chill thoroughly. Freeze, in an ice cream machine, according to manufacturer's instructions.
