List of Ingredients
1 pound lean ground beef
1/2 green pepper - diced
1 15-ounce can black olives
1 28-ounce can tomato sauce
1 1/2 cups corn meal
1/2 teaspoon salt or to taste
Sprinkling of cumin
1 large onion - diced
2 cloves garlic - minced
1 28-ounce can whole tomatoes
1 15-ounce cream-style corn
2 tablespoons Chili powder or more to taste

Trim, wash and dice onion. Trim, was and dice green pepper. Mince garlic cloves.
Brown ground meat, onion, garlic and green pepper. Add chili powder, cumin, salt and pepper to taste. Add tomato sauce, tomatoes, olives and cream-style corn. Simmer for 1/2 hour.
Make corn meal mush: Boil 2 cups or more of water. Slowly add to 1 cup of corn meal until you make a soft mush. Salt to taste. Allow to cool slightly.
Cover the bottom of a baking dish with a layer of corn mush, add a layer of the meat mixture and alternate with the corn mush and meat mixture with the last layer of corn mush on top.
Bake at 375°F. until corn meal mush is brown on top.
A large cast iron skillet or a cast iron Dutch oven makes a perfect cooking container for the tamale pie.
