    1 5.5 oz jar dried beef, rinsed and well dried, cut into strips
    2 Tbsp. butter (this is what the recipe, written on an index card by her Grandma who knows how many years ago says, but I use less)

    2 Tbsp. flour
    1 1/2 c. milk
    (she used cream or half and half, but alas, I stick with non-fat most of the time) pepper (believe me, this dish does not need salt!)

    toast, rice, potatoes or noodles (we use toast and it topped six pieces at our table)

    Melt the butter in frying pan. Add the beef and cook until crisp. Add the flour to the pan and stir till beef is well coated, then gradually pour in the milk and stir until boiling. Season with pepper.
