Fresh Blackberry Trifle

6 cups blackberries, cleaned
1 cup blackberry or black cherry juice
1/2 cup sugar
1-1/2 tsp vanilla extract
1 cup heavy whipping cream
1 angel food cake, torn into 1-inch pieces
Recipe
Mash 2 cups of the blackberries well and stir into juice. Add sugar to taste, if needed (starting with 1 tablespoon). Stir in 1/2 teaspoon vanilla; set aside.
Sprinkle remaining blackberries with 1 tablespoon sugar; set aside. Whip cream to soft peaks; sweeten to taste, starting with 2 teaspoons sugar. Stir in 1 teaspoon vanilla; set aside.
Put one-third of the cake in a glass bowl (for the prettiest presentation) and drizzle with one-third of the blackberry sauce. Add a third of the fruit and top with a third of the whipped cream. Repeat layers until all ingredients are used. Serve at once.
