    This pie was one that was made in the Great Depression when the ingredients were readily available on the farm.

    List of Ingredients




    Crust:
    1 cup bread crumbs (7 slices white bread)
    1/3 cup sugar
    1/3 cup real butter

    Let bread dry completely then brown lightly in oven.

    Filling:
    2 cups milk
    2 eggs
    1 cup sugar
    2 heaping Tbsp. flour
    1 Tbsp real butter
    1/2 tsp salt
    1 tsp vanilla

    Recipe



    Beat eggs; add 1/2 cup of the milk, sugar, flour, salt and vanilla. Heat milk, slowly add egg mixture and butter. Slowly bring to a boil and let boil a minute or so. Save the egg whites. Put filling into crust. Beat egg whites (not too stiff) and top pie. Save a few of the crust crumbs and sprinkle on top of egg whites. Bake for 10-15 minutes.
