    Doughnuts: Cake Doughnuts

    List of Ingredients


    • 2 eggs
    • 1 cup sugar
    • 1 cup milk
    • 5 tablespoons melted shortening
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
    • 4 cups all-purpose flour
    • 4 teaspoons baking powder
    • 1/2 teaspoon salt
    • 1/2 cup butter
    • Vegetable spray or cooking oil


    Instructions


    1. Beat eggs until foamy in a large mixing bowl. Once eggs have become foamy, slowly add sugar, beating continually. Stir in milk, shortening and vanilla.

    2. Sift flour, baking powder and salt together. Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing well. Cover and chill the dough for 30 minutes to 1 hour.

    3. Preheat oven to 450 degrees. Spray or grease the baking sheet with vegetable oil or cooking spray.

    4. Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface to 1/2" thickness. Cut out using a doughnut cutter and place on a baking sheet 1 inch apart.

    5. Bake until golden brown, approximately 10 to 15 minutes.

    6. Tips: For a cinnamon sugar coating, brush doughnut with melted butter and roll in a mixture of 1 cup sugar and 1 teaspoon cinnamon.
