    List of Ingredients


    • 2 medium granny smith or other firm, tart cooking apples, peeled cored and finely chopped
    • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour, divided
    • 3/4 cup butter flavored crisco
    • 1 cup firmly packed light brown sugar
    • 2 eggs
    • 2 tablespoons vanilla extract
    • 2 teaspoons baking powder
    • 1/2 teaspoon salt
    • 1/2 cup finely chopped pecans
    • 1/2 cup finely chopped dates
    • Confectioners' sugar


    Instructions


    1. Heat oven to 350. Grease a 15x10x1" jelly roll pan with butter flavored crisco.
    2. Toss apples with 1/4 cup flour.
    3. Place butter flavor crisco and brown sugar in a large bowl. Beat at medium speed of an electric mixer until well blended.
    4. Beat in eggs and vanilla.
    5. Combine remaining 2 1/4 cups flour, baking powder and salt.
    6. Add gradually to creamed mixture at low speed. Beat until well blended.
    7. Fold in apple mixture, nuts and dates. Spread in greased pan.
    8. Bake at 350 for 25 to 30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
    9. Cool completely.
    10. Cut into bars about 2 1/2 x 1 1/2 inches.
    11. Serve immediately or refrigerate.
    12. Dust with confectioners suger just before serving.
