Butterscotch Brownies

- 1/4 cup butter
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- 1 egg lightly beaten
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
- 1/2 cup chopped nuts or chocolate chips, optional
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350.
- Grease and flour an 8x8" pan.
- Melt butter in a medium saucepan over low heat; remove from heat and stir in sugar and egg.
- Combine baking powder, salt and flour. Stir with a whisk to combine.
- With a wooden spoon, stir into butter mixture.
- Stir in vanilla and nuts (batter will be thick).
- Spread in the prepared pan.
- Bake 20 to 25 minutes, or until lightly brown, or until a toothpick inserted near center comes out almost clean.
- Cut into bars while still warm.
