Cake: Preacher's Chocolate Cake

- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup shortening
- 2 eggs, beaten
- 2 cups flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1/2 cup cocoa
- 1/2 cup buttermilk
- 1 cup boiling water
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- Buttercream Frosting:
- 1 (16 ounce) package powdered sugar
- 1/2 cup butter, softened
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 3 tablespoons cream (2 to 3 tablespoons)
Instructions
- Cream sugars and shortening; add eggs and beat very well. Add dry ingredients alternately with milk, beating well after each addition. Fold in boiling water and vanilla.
- Pour in a greased 13x9" pan and bake for 30 to 35 minutes in a preheated 350 degree oven (can also be baked in two 9" round pans for 25 to 30 minutes).
- Cool cake for 20 minutes. Invert onto serving platter. Cool cake completely. Frost with buttercream frosting.
