    Cake: Old Fashioned Devil's Food Cake

    List of Ingredients


    • 2 1/2 cups cake flour
    • 1/2 cup cocoa
    • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
    • 2 teaspoons baking powder
    • 1/2 teaspoon salt
    • 1/2 cup butter
    • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
    • 1 cup sugar
    • 1 cup packed brown sugar
    • 3 eggs
    • 1/2 cup light cream
    • 2/3 cup sour cream


    Instructions


    1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Butter and flour 3 8 inch cake pans. Sift flour, measure, and sift again with cocoa, soda, baking powder and salt.

    2. Cream butter; add vanilla and both sugars, beating well. Beat in eggs one at a time, until thoroughly mixed. While beating slowly, add half of dry ingredients. Add light cream. Add remaining dry ingredients, then sour cream. Mix thoroughly.

    3. Pour into prepared cake pans and bake 25 to 30 minutes, or until knife inserted in center comes out clean. Do not open oven while baking. Cool in pans 5 minutes, then on rack. When completely cook, frost.
