    The Bag Lady's Chocolate Pound Cake

    List of Ingredients


    • 3 cups all-purpose flour
    • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
    • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
    • 1/2 teaspoon salt
    • 5 tablespoons cocoa
    • 1 cup butter, softened
    • 1/2 cup vegetable shortening
    • 3 cups sugar
    • 5 large eggs
    • 1 cup buttermilk
    • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract


    Instructions


    1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Grease and flour a 10 inch bundt pan.
    2. Sift together flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt and cocoa; set aside. Using an electric mixer, cream together butter, shortening and sugar until fluffy. Add eggs, one at a time and mix well after each addition. Add flour and buttermilk alternately to butter mixture, beginning and ending with flour. Add vanilla and mix well.
    3. Pour batter into prepared pan. Bake 1 hour and 45 minutes or until cake tests done. Remove from oven and allow cake to cool in pan for 10 minutes. Invert cake onto plate and cool slightly before serving.
