    • 4 cups brown sugar
    • 4 eggs
    • 4 cups flour
    • 1 tablespoon baking soda
    • 1 cup butter or shortening
    • 4 tablespoons milk
    • 1 tablespoon cream of tartar
    • 3 cups flour


    Instructions


    1. Combine sugar, butter, and eggs. Blend with mixer. Add milk. Sift together 4 cups flour, cream of tartar, and soda. Gradually add to sugar mixture. Turn onto a pastry sheet and mix in remaining 3 cups of flour. Divide this into 2 parts and shape into long rolls. Refrigerate overnight. Slice with a sharp knife. Bake 8 to 10 minutes at 350 degrees, or until lightly browned.
