    List of Ingredients


    • Cookies:
    • 1 1/4 cups butter or margarine, softened
    • 2 cups sugar
    • 2 eggs
    • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
    • 3 cups all-purpose flour
    • 3/4 cup Hershey's Cocoa
    • 1 teaspoon baking soda
    • 1/2 teaspoon salt
    • 1/2 cup milk
    • Creamy Strawberry Filling:
    • 1 (8 ounce) container soft cream cheese whith strawberries
    • 2 tablespoons butter or margarine, softened
    • 1 tablespoon strawberry spreadable fruit
    • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
    • Dash salt
    • 3 3/4 cups confectioners' sugar (1 pound)
    • Red food color (optional)


    Instructions


    1. Prepare Creamy Strawberry Filling; refrigerate.
    2. Cookies: Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Beat butter, sugar, eggs and vanilla in a large bowl until fluffy. Combine flour, cocoa, baking soda and salt; add alternately with milk to butter mixture, beating until mixture is well blended. Drop by lightly heaping tablespoons onto ungreased cookie sheet. Bake 11 to 13 minutes or just until cookies are puffed and soft set. Remove from cookie sheet to wire rack; cool completely. Spread bottom of one cookie with about 1 tablespoon filling; cover with another cookie. Repeat with remaining cookies and filling.
    3. Yield: About 2 1 /2 dozen filled cookies
    4. Creamy Strawberry Filling: In small bowl, beat cream cheese and butter. Add spreadable fruit, vanilla and salt; beat until blended. Gradually beat in powdered sugar. Stir in food color, if desired.
    5. Yield: About 2 1/2 cups
