Winter Dried Apple Cobbler

- 3 cups water
- 1 1/2 cups sugar
- 1/4 cup lemon juice
- 1 2/3 cups Martha White Self-Rising Flour
- 1/2 cup butter or margarine
- 1/2 cup milk
- 2 (6 ounce) packages dried apples
- Topping:
- 1 tablespoon milk
- 2 tablespoons sugar
Instructions
- Heat oven to 350 degrees. Grease 13x9 inch (3 quart) glass baking dish. In medium saucepan, combine water and 1 1/2 cups sugar. Heat over medium heat until sugar dissolves, stirring frequently. Remove from heat; add lemon juice. Set aside.
- Place flour in large bowl. With pastry blender or fork, cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Add 1/2 cup milk; stir with fork just until mixture pulls away from sides of bowl.
- On floured surface, knead dough just until smooth. Roll out dough to form 12 inch square. Cut dough into 8 strips. Place 3 strips lengthwise in bottom of greased baking dish. Sprinkle apples evenly over dough. Place remaining strips of dough lengthwise over apples.
- Pour sugar syrup carefully between strips of dough. Brush dough with 1 tablespoon milk; sprinkle with 2 tablespoons sugar. Bake at 350 degrees for 40 to 50 minutes or until golden brown. Serve warm or cool.
