    List of Ingredients


    • 1 1/2 cups diced cooked ham
    • 1 cup diced celery
    • 2 teaspoons salt
    • 2 tablespoons cooking oil
    • 1 pound great northern beans
    • 1 cup diced onion
    • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
    • salt and pepper to taste


    Instructions


    1. Soak beans in enough water to cover overnight.
    2. Saute ham, celery and onion in oil.
    3. Drain beans.
    4. Place beans back in pot with 6 cups of fresh water, ham and seasonings.
    5. Cook for 2 1/2 to 3 hours.
    6. Remove 2 cups of beans and mash.
    7. Return mashed beans to pot.
    8. Reseason if needed.
