Recipe
Bake for
40-50 minutes at 350 degrees. You want the center to be a little gooey so don't bake
too long. Cool and cut into squares. Makes 20-24 squares.
Variations:
Pumpkin Gooey (Paula Deen's favorite!): Use yellow or spice cake mix.
Add a 15-oz can of pumpkin pie filling and an extra egg to the cream
cheese filling. After cutting into squares, top each with a pecan
half and serve with whipped cream.
Pineapple Gooey: Add a 20-oz can of drained crushed pineapple and an
extra egg to cream cheese filling.
Lemon Gooey: Use a lemon cake mix. Add the juice (1/4 cup) and zest
of 2 lemons to cream cheese filling.
Carrot Cake Gooey: Use spice cake mix. Add 1 cup chopped nuts and
1-1/2 cups finely grated carrots to cream cheese filling.
Peanut Butter Gooey: Use chocolate cake mix. Add 1 cup creamy peanut
butter and an extra egg to cream cheese filling. Sprinkle top of
batter with 1 cup chopped peanuts (optional).
Chocolate Chip Gooey: Use yellow or chocolate cake mix. Sprinkle 1
cup chocolate chips (and 1 cup chopped nuts, if desired) on top of
cream cheese filling.
Banana Gooey: Beat 2 ripe bananas and an extra egg into cream cheese
filling.
Nutty Gooey: Add 1 cup chopped nuts to the CAKE mixture before
patting it into the pan.
Chippy Gooey: Stir 1 cup white chocolate chips, peanut butter chips,
butterscotch chips, Heath Almond Toffee bits, or Heath Milk Chocolate
Toffee bits into filling.
