    Preheat oven to 375F.


    List of Ingredients


    • 1/2 cup butter
    • 2 eggs
    • 1 1/2 cups sugar
    • 2 oz. red food coloring
    • 1 tsp. vanilla
    • 1/2 tsp. salt
    • 2 TBS. cocoa
    • 1 cup buttermilk
    • 2 1/4 cups cake flour, sifted
    • 1 tsp. vinegar
    • 1 tsp. baking soda
    • FROSTING:
    • 1 cup milk
    • 3 TBS. flour
    • 1/2 sugar
    • 1 cup butter
    • 2 cups powdered sugar
    • 1 tsp. vanilla


    Instructions


    1. CAKE: Cream sugar and butter. Add eggs. Make paste of food coloring and cocoa. Add to the above mixture. Add buttermilk and salt alternating with flour and vanilla, beating after each addition. Mix vinegar and soda and add to mixture. Bake in two 9 inch pans for 35 minutes.
    2. FROSTING:
      Mix milk, flour and granulated sugar in a saucepan. Boil until thick and cool.
      Cream together the butter and powdered sugar until fluffy. Add vanilla. Add cooled milk mixture and blend well. If necessary add small amount of powdered sugar.
    3. Frost like a layer cake.
