    List of Ingredients

    2 c. all-purpose flour
    1 c. unsweetened cocoa
    1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
    1/2 tsp salt
1/2 c. butter or margarine(1 stick) **i used butter, so not too how margarine would work out**
    1 c. packed brown sugar
    1 c. granulated sugar
    3 large eggs
    1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
    1 1/2 c. buttermilk
Chocolate Butter Frosting (i posted this in an earlier reply but if i need to post it again, just tell me and i will)

    Recipe

Helpful hint: Allow all butter to soften just to being soft and bendable, not completely room temp. Also, let eggs come to room temp.

1)Oven to 350*. Grease 3 8 inch cake pans, line bottoms w/ waxed paper, grease paper. Then dust pans w/ flour.
2)Stir together flour, cocoa, baking soda, and salt.**i sifted mine first into bowl, then stirred to evenly combine.**
3)In large bowl, beat butter and sugars at low speed until blended. Increase speed to high; beat 5 minutes. Reduce speed to Med. and add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Add vanilla and beat until mixed. Add flour mixture alternately with buttermilk, starting and ending with flour. Beat just until smooth, scraping bowl occationally or as needed.
    4) Divide batter between pans. Bake 30 - 35 minutes, or until toothpick inserted in center cakes comes out clean. **i found it only took about 28 minutes to cook mine...so your time may vary**
Cool layers in pan 10 minuteson rack. Run a small knife around edge of pans to loosen layers, then invert layers onto rakes, romove wax paper, and allow to cool completely.
    5) Prepare frosting. Place one layer on plate, spread with about 1/3 c. frosting. Place next layer on, spread w/ about 1/3 c. frosting. Place top and final layer on cake. Frost top and sides with remaining frosting. (About 16 serving, depending on size)
