    ELEPHANT EARS

    List of Ingredients

    2 cups milk
    5 tablespoons sugar
    5 tablespoons shortening
2 tablespoons salt, or less to taste
    2 envelopes active dry yeast
2 cups warm water, 105 to 115 degrees
    6 cups flour
    2 quarts vegetable oil
    Cinnamon sugar

    Recipe

Scald milk; add sugar, shortening and salt. Cook to lukewarm.

Sprinkle yeast onto water in large bowl. Add milk mixture and 2 cups
flour; beat until smooth. Stir in enough additional flour to make a
    stiff dough.

Turn dough onto a lightly floured board. Knead until smooth and
elastic, 8 to 10 minutes. Place in a greased bowl, turning to grease
    top.

Cover and let rise in warm place until doubled in size, about 1 hour.

Divide dough in 6 to 8 balls. Roll each out in the form of an elephant ear.

Heat vegetable oil to 375 degrees.

Deep-fry ears, one at a time, for 3 minutes on each side or until golden brown.

Serve hot, sprinkled with cinnamon sugar
