Red Velvet Cake

- 1/2 cup shortening
- 1 1/2 cups sugar
- 2 eggs
- 2 oz. red food coloring
- 2 1/4 cups flour
- 2 tablespoons cocoa
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 tablespoon vinegar
- 1 teaspoon butter flavoring
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350.
- Grease and flour two 8 inch round pans.
- Cream shortening, sugar, and eggs. Add coloring and cocoa to make a paste.
- Mix together salt, flour, buttermilk and vinilla. Add to paste.
- Alternately add soda and vinegar, just mix easy, don't beat mixture to hard.
- Pour into pans. Bake for 30 min. at 350.
- Cool. Frost.
